<p>Mount Nancy, formerly Mount Amorisgelu, is a mountain located in Grafton County, New Hampshire, on the eastern boundary of the Pemigewasset Wilderness of the White Mountains. The mountain is the highest point and namesake of the Nancy Range.</p><br>
<p>Mt. Nancy is flanked to the northeast by Mount Bemis, to the southwest by Mount Anderson, and to the southeast by Duck Pond Mountain. Although Mount Nancy is officially trailless, a visible path climbs to the summit from Norcross Pond. With a summit elevation of 3,926 ft, it is one of the New England Hundred Highest peaks.</p><br>
<p>The southwest face of Mount Nancy drains into Norcross Brook, thence into the East Branch of the Pemigewasset River, the Merrimack River, and into the Gulf of Maine at Newburyport, Massachusetts. The northwest side of Mt. Nancy drains into Anderson Brook, and thence into Norcross Brook. The northeast and southeast sides of Mt. Nancy drain into Nancy Brook, thence into the Saco River, and into the Gulf of Maine at Saco, Maine.</p><br>
<h2>The legend of Nancy</h2><br>
<p>The M/V Demetrios II was a cargo ship, built in 1964 by J. J. Sietas, at their shipbuilding yard in Hamburg-Neuenfelde, Germany.</p><br>
<h2>Paphos accident</h2><br>
<p>The Honduran-flagged M/V Demetrios II ran aground off Paphos Lighthouse on 23 March 1998 in heavy seas, during a voyage from Greece to Syria with a cargo of timber.</p><br>
<p>At the time of the accident, the ship had eight crew members - 4 Greeks, 2 Pakistanis and 2 Syrians. The crew were rescued and airlifted to the safety of Paphos by a British Military Helicopter.</p><br>
<p>It was subsequently confirmed in the Lloyd&#39;s List that the competency certificates for the Greek Captain and the Pakistani first officer were forgeries.</p><br>
<p>The wreck can clearly be seen whilst travelling along the main Paphos to Coral Bay Road.</p><br>
<p>College Hall is the oldest building on the West Philadelphia campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to its construction, the university was located on Ninth Street in Center City, Philadelphia. The building was designed by Thomas Webb Richards and completed in 1873. The characteristic green color of the building is due to its composition of green serpentine stone.</p><br>
<p>College Hall was placed on the National Register of Historic Places February 14, 1978. It is also a contributing property of the University of Pennsylvania Campus Historic District.</p><br>
<p>The building currently houses the undergraduate admissions office, the university president&#39;s offices, the Department of History, and classrooms. The top floor of College Hall is also home to the Philomathean Society, a literary society founded in 1813.</p><br>
<p>Although College Hall and the now-demolished Blanchard Hall were rumored to be the model for the Victorian Gothic mansion in The Addams Family cartoons, the cartoonist Charles Addams repeatedly denied the claims.</p><br>
<p>The Thomas Eakins House is a historic house at 1727-29 Mount Vernon Street in the Spring Garden section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Built about 1854, it was for most of his life the home of Thomas Eakins , one of the most influential American artist of the late 19th century. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1965, and is now home to a local artist cooperative.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Thomas Eakins House is located north of downtown Philadelphia, on the north side of Mount Vernon Street between North 18th and 17th Streets in the city&#39;s Spring Garden neighborhood. It is a four-story rowhouse, its first three stories brick and the fourth floor of wood frame construction. The front facade is three bays wide, with the main entrance in the right bay. Windows are set in rectangular openings, with simple marble sills and lintels.</p><br>
<p>The rowhouse was built about 1854 for Benjamin Eakins, father of the artist. Benjamin Eakins added the fourth story in 1874 as a studio for his son. Thomas Eakins inherited the house in 1899, and lived there until his death in 1916. Eakins was a leading figure in the development of realism in painting, and an innovator in the use of photography for artistic purposes. He also taught a generation of artists at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where he introduced new techniques for studying and painting the human form. Many of his portrait subjects are from all walks of life in Philadelphia, his lifelong home.</p><br>
<p>The Mural Arts Program, a Philadelphia-based art program that creates outdoor murals, is currently based in the Thomas Eakins house.</p><br>
<p>The Union League of Philadelphia, founded in 1862 as a Patriotic Society to support the policies of Abraham Lincoln, is today a private members-only club.</p><br>
<p>Founded by Philadelphia society, it remains a bastion of the elite; among its 3,300 members are leaders in business, academia, law, medicine, politics, religion and the arts. Members gather to socialize, dine, network, attend events, exercise and relax in the 1865 Second Empire-style building. The club is ranked first on the Five Star Platinum Club list.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The Union League of Philadelphia is the oldest and most prominent of the remaining loyalty leagues. Founded in 1862 as a patriotic society to support the Union and the policies of President Abraham Lincoln, it laid the philosophical foundation of other Union Leagues across a nation torn by Civil War. It has given loyal support to the American military in all conflicts since. Its motto is "Love of Country Leads."</p><br>
<p>As in 1862, its members prize tradition and represent the Philadelphia region’s elite in business, education, religion as well as the arts and culture. Although no longer exclusively Republican or male in membership, The Union League of Philadelphia has maintained its identity as distinctly traditional and politically conservative. The club has hosted USA presidents, heads of state, industrialists, entertainers and visiting dignitaries from around the world.</p><br>
<p>The club&#39;s building, a classic Second Empire-style structure with a brick and brownstone façade and dramatic twin circular staircases leading to the main entrance on Broad Street, was designed by John Fraser and completed in May 1865. In 1905, Philadelphia architect (and Union League member) Horace Trumbauer won a design competition to build major additions to the building. The Beaux Arts-style additions, completed in 1910 and 1911, expanded the length of the building to a city block. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.</p><br>
<p>Adorning the walls and hallways is the clubs collection of art and artifacts, a chronicle of Philadelphias imprint upon the American landscape. A Heritage Center was added to provide a permanent place to store and display the extensive collection of Civil War-related documents and objects.</p><br>
<p>The club has three charitable foundations: the Abraham Lincoln Foundation, the Youth Work Foundation and the Scholarship Foundation which educate the public about USA history, recognize student role models in schools and provide awards and scholarships to deserving students.</p><br>
<h2>Heritage Center</h2><br>
<p>In 2011, the Foundations of the Union League - three non-profit charitable organizations founded by the membership of the Union League - completed construction on The Heritage Center, which includes a multi-purpose space for events, a museum space for exhibitions and a research center. The Center houses the historic collections of the Union League of Philadelphia, the Abraham Lincoln Foundation of Philadelphia, the two-dimensional collections of the Civil War Museum of Philadelphia, and the collections of both the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (MOLLUS) and the Dames of the Loyal Legion (DOLLUS). The collections are all available for research.</p><br>
<p>The Heritage Center has regular public open hours, and every February, weather permitting, there is an Open House, with docent-led tours of the entire League house, and special collections on display.</p><br>
<p>The Boyd–Harvey House is an historic home located at 1321 Harvey Road in west Knox County, Tennessee. It was designed in the Federal style and constructed by Thomas Boyd, Jr., and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.</p><br>
<p>The original house is believed to have been constructed in the 1820s or 1830s, with a rear wing added later. Both the original house and the rear wing are constructed of brick, with a corbelled brick cornice above. There is a one-story shed roof porch along the front of the ante-bellum home. The original house has a hip roof, and the rear wing has a gable roof. Interior features of note include federal style fireplace mantels, fluted trim, built-in cupboards flanking the west fireplace, and a stone dairy in the addition.</p><br>
<p>In 1995, the home still had two separate staircases: one leading to the front of the house and one leading to the rear of the house.</p><br>
<p>The Horn is a mountain located in Coos County, New Hampshire. The mountain is part of the Pilot Range of the White Mountains. The Horn is flanked to the southwest by the Bulge.</p><br>
<p>The Horn stands within the watershed of the Upper Ammonoosuc River, which drains into the Connecticut River, and thence into Long Island Sound in Connecticut. The south face of the Horn drains into the headwaters of the West Branch of the Upper Ammonoosuc River. The northwest face of the Horn drains north, thence into the West Branch of Mill Brook, and into the Upper Ammonoosuc.</p><br>
<p>Unknown Pond lies to the northeast of the mountain and provides an excellent view of the peak. The open ledges on the summit face west, however, so it is difficult to see the pond from the top of the mountain. Because of The Horn&#39;s location in the northern White Mountains and its distance—5 mi—from the nearest road, it is much less visited than other comparable summits in the White Mountains.</p><br>
<p>The Avalanche Peaks are two mountain peaks situated above the Arwa Valley to the northwest of Badrinath in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. The peaks are named for the avalanches experienced by early climbers seeking to cross the glaciers beneath them.</p><br>
<h2>Avalanche Peak I</h2><br>
<p>Avalanche Peak I is situated on north-south massif between Kalindi Bamak and the Arwa Bank. This is the main peak among the two and situated south to the Avalanche Peak II. The altitude of the summit is 6196 metres.</p><br>
<p>The peak was first climbed in 1931 by Eric Shipton and Frank Smythe with two Sherpas.</p><br>

<p>Avalanche Peak II is the higher and more northerly peak. It is situated south of the Kalindi Khal which separates the Chaturangi glacier from the Arwa valley. The altitude of the summit is 6443 metres.</p><br>

<p>The Lillooet Icecap, also called the Lillooet Icefield or the Lillooet Crown, is a large icefield in the Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains in southwestern British Columbia, Canada. It is about 90 km southeast of the towns of Pemberton and Whistler, and about 175 km north of Vancouver, British Columbia. The Lillooet Icecap is one of the largest of several large icefields in the Pacific Ranges which are the largest temperate-latitude glacial fields in the world. At its maximum extent including its glacial tongues it measures 30 km east to west and 20 km north to south; its central icefield area is approximately 15 km in diameter.</p><br>
<p>The Lillooet Icecap is the source of several major rivers which radiate out from it in a wheel pattern. The Lillooet River is fed by the Lillooet Glacier on the icefield&#39;s southern flank and runs southeast via Pemberton to Harrison Lake. The Bridge River is fed by the Bridge Glacier on the icefield&#39;s eastern flank and runs east to the town of Lillooet. On the icefield&#39;s north side are the Taseko River (a tributary of the Chilcotin River), the Lord and Tchaikazan Rivers (tributaries of the Taseko), and the Edmond River which feeds Chilko Lake, the source of the Chilko River, which like the Taseko is a tributary of the Chilcotin River. On the west side of the icecap are the sources of the Southgate River runs to Waddington Harbour at the head of Bute Inlet and shares a common delta with the Homathko River, and the Toba River, which runs to Toba Inlet.</p><br>
<p>The divide between the Lillooet and Southgate Rivers is on the southwestern flank of the icefield and is named Ring Pass. This was investigated for a possible route for the Canadian Pacific Railway but the survey party led by Stanley Smith was lost and never found. The Stanley Smith Glacier and Frank Smith Glacier in the central area of the Lillooet Icecap are named in their memory. Southwest of Ring Pass is the Compton Névé, another large icecap. The Lillooet Icecap and Compton Névé form one contiguous icemass, but because they are two distinct massifs of the lower elevation and active glacial movement in Ring Pass they have been customarily considered to be separate.</p><br>
<p>The Powder Mountain Icefield, also called the Powder Mountain Icecap and the Cayley Icefield, is a glacial field in the Pacific Ranges of southwestern British Columbia, Canada, about 20 km west of Whistler and about 90 km north of Vancouver. On the west side of the icefield is the valley of the Squamish River, while on its east is the Callaghan Valley, which is the setting for the Nordic facilities for the 2010 Winter Olympics.</p><br>
<p>The icefield is studded by several volcanic formations, including the active volcano Mount Cayley, which lies at the southernmost end of the icefield. Other summits are Powder Mountain, Brandywine Mountain and Mount Fee. Mount Callaghan, a dormant volcano, is just northeast of the icefield. Mount Brew is just to its south.</p><br>
<h2>Geology</h2><br>
<p>Numerous subglacial eruptions beneath the Powder Mountain Icefield have formed many distinctive subglacial volcanoes in the Mount Cayley volcanic field and contain abundant glass and fine-scale jointing from rapid cooling of lava, such as Ember Ridge and Slag Hill. Mineralogically, the volcanics range from andesite to rhyodacite, and chemically, the rocks span a range from andesite to dacite. Glassy volcanic rocks are abundant, with glass contents as high as 70%. Volcanoes such as the Slag Hill tuya were formed when magma intruded into and melted a vertical pipe in the overlying Powder Mountain Icefield. The partially molten mass cooled as a large block, with gravity flattening its upper surface, forming its flat-topped, steep-sided subglacial volcanic edifice. The latest volcanic activity in the Powder Mountain Icefield has occurred in the past 10,000 years.</p><br>
<h2>Development proposal</h2><br>
<p>The icefield was one of several locations in the southern Coast Mountains that attracted ski resort development interest as a result of the success of the nearby ski resort town at Whistler, British Columbia. A proposal call in 1985 was won by Powder Mountain Resorts, who won approval in principle from the provincial government for its project design, which included a small basetown at Callaghan Lake. In 1987, Forests and Lands Minister Jack Kempf was instructed by then-Premier Bill Vander Zalm to "cease and desist" in favour of Callaghan Resorts Inc., which was backed by then-Attorney-General Les Peterson. Court action for breach of contract and abuse of office taken by Powder Mountain Resort promoters Nan and Dianne Hartwick was dismissed by the Supreme Court of British Columbia in 1999, though in 2000 the British Columbia Court of Appeal refused to overturn the lower court&#39;s ruling. An appeal at the Supreme Court of Canada is still pending.</p><br>
<p>A special prosecutor was appointed but the investigation was halted for lack of evidence in 2003, three weeks before Vancouver and Whistler won the bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympics. In the meantime, a Nordic lodge was founded in the Callaghan Valley in 1998, just prior to the Canadian Olympic Committee&#39;s selection of Vancouver over Calgary and Quebec City as the site of the 2010 Olympics bid. The owner of the Nordic lodge was a promoter of using the Callaghan Valley for Olympic ski-jumping, cross-country, biathlon and other Nordic events. Powder Mountain promoters Nan and Dianne Hartwick continue to press for investigation of backroom dealing that led to the shunting-aside of their project and claim connections between members of VANOC, the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and those in the provincial administration who helped quash their project. The province has also issued permits for other operations in the valley, such as cat-skiing and snowmobile tour operations, as well as pushed through permits for construction of the Whistler Olympic Park, which is the site of the games&#39; Nordic events. The Hartwicks&#39; position is that these developments violate the agreement-in-principle they had with the province, which the provincial government had claimed was without sufficient backing.</p><br>
<p>In 2007, RCMP Commercial Crimes Unit head Kevin deBruyckere confirmed that a review is underway, and which the Hartwicks say is based on new evidence of conflict of interest. The Hartwicks emphasize that they are not anti-Olympics, but that their ultimate goal is only to re-establish their right to complete their resort proposal.</p><br>
<p>Trask Mountain in the Northern Oregon Coast Range, is the tallest mountain in Yamhill County, Oregon.</p><br>
<p>It is located in the northwest corner of the county.</p><br>
<p>Evidently the mountain was named for Elbridge Trask who settled west of the peak in Tillamook County in 1852.</p><br>
<h2>Geology</h2><br>
<p>The mountain is composed of mainly volcanic rock with some sedimentary rocks.</p><br>
<p>Like much of the northern section of the Oregon Coast Range, the origins began around 40 million years ago during the Eocene period. During this era, sandstone and siltstone formed in the area.</p><br>
<p>Additionally, igneous rocks and basalt flows combined with basaltic sandstone to create many of the mountainous formations. The volcanic rocks come from basalt flows that originated from fissures in the central portion of Oregon and covered much of the state.</p><br>
<p>Additional sedimentary rock was formed more recently, around 20 million years ago.</p><br>
<p>All of the coast range lies over a convergent tectonic margin interacting with the Juan de Fuca Plate that is subducting beneath North America tectonic plate in the Cascadia subduction zone.</p><br>
<p>The mountains are created by the plunging structural arch of sedimentary and Tertiary volcanic strata that is being uplifted.</p><br>
<h2>Flora and fauna</h2><br>
<p>Vegetation in the area includes Sitka spruce, Douglas-fir, western hemlock, western redcedar, salmonberry, red alder, western sword fern, and vine maple among many others.</p><br>
<p>Other plant life native to the mountains are Coptis laciniata, salal, Oregon-grape, and bracken fern.</p><br>
<p>Different insects can include spiders, beetles, and various centipedes. Mammals include weasels, chipmunks, black bears, hares and deer. Birds include kinglets, chickadees, woodpeckers, and jays.</p><br>
<h2>Other</h2><br>
<p>In the northwest part of the county, the mountain is in private forest land owned by Weyerhaeuser.</p><br>
<p>Trask Mountain makes up a portion of the North Yamhill River headwaters that drain to the Willamette River. On its north side, drainage is to the Trask River which flows west to the Pacific Ocean. The mountain receives over 135 in of precipitation each year. The mountain is home to a USA Geologic Survey seismograph station that was installed in 1991.</p><br>
<p>Previously, the peak was home to a fire lookout station that was abandoned in the 1970s.</p><br>
<p>There are plans to construct a 50 Megawatt wind power facility atop the mountain beginning in 2009.</p><br>
<p>In 1997, Dundee, Oregon, resident Lee John Knoch beat Robert Allen Holliday nearly to death and buried him alive on Trask Mountain.</p><br>
<p>The Downtown Cumberland Historic District, also referred to as the Downtown Cumberland Mall, is the main shopping and dining district for the city of Cumberland, Maryland.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>The district is located in the heart of the downtown area along Baltimore Street, the formerly the main thoroughfare through the city. Baltimore Street is now a brick pedestrian mall. The street is lined with large multistory commercial buildings, most of which were built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These buildings, which were formerly banks, hotels, and department stores, are relics of the city&#39;s former wealth and importance during the industrial age. They now contain tourist oriented businesses such as sidewalk cafes, antique stores, boutiques and art galleries. Baltimore Street hosts some of the city’s biggest sidewalk festivals and block parties. In the warmer months the weekly Farmers Market will draw hundreds downtown and often evenings there will be activities such as outdoor dining with live music or block parties.</p><br>

<p>Mount Downton is the highest summit of the 10 km diameter Itcha Range, located 40 km northeast of Anahim Lake and 33 km east of Far Mountain in the Chilcotin District of the Central Interior of British Columbia, Canada. It lies within Itcha Ilgachuz Provincial Park.</p><br>
<h2>Name origin</h2><br>
<p>Mount Downton was named for Geoffrey M. Downton, British Columbia Land Surveyor, for whom Downton Lake, the reservoir behind Lajoie Dam in the Bridge River Power Project is also named. Downton is credited with first noting the hydroelectric potential inherent in the elevation differential between the Bridge River and Seton Lake on opposing sides of Mission Pass during a visit to the Bridge River Mining District in 1912.</p><br>
<h2>Geology</h2><br>
<p>Mount Downton is part of the Anahim Volcanic Belt, a west-east trending line of volcanoes formed when the North American Plate moved over a hotspot, similar to the one feeding the Hawaiian Islands, called the Anahim hotspot. The Anahim Volcanic Belt includes other immediately nearby ranges, the Rainbow and Ilgachuz Ranges.</p><br>
<p>Singuttara Hill  is a small hill in Yangon, Myanmar , crowned by the Shwedagon Pagoda, the most famous pagoda in the country.</p><br>
<h2>Legends associated with Singuttara</h2><br>
<h3>Tapussa and Bhallika</h3><br>
<p>Two pious merchant brothers from the Mon country of Lower Burma, Tapussa and Bhallika, met the Buddha in northern India soon after he had attained enlightenment, and were entrusted with eight sacred hair relics. The two brothers are recorded as the first lay disciples of the Buddha. The Buddha told them the relics should be enshrined in their own land on Singuttara hill, where relics of three previous incarnations of the Buddha already rested. The Buddha then explained to them the origin of the hill&#39;s name: ages before, it was the home of a giant centipede who devoured elephants and piled their tusks (Pali singa) high (Pali uttara) on the peak. Tupassa and Bhallika would know they had found Singuttara when they found a tree trunk balancing on a peak in such a way that neither end touched the ground.</p><br>
<h3>The Convention of Sule</h3><br>
<p>The brothers returned to Lower Burma (Okkalapa) and presented the hairs to the pious King of Okkalapa. Although the King searched diligently for the hill for three years, he was unable to locate it. Eventually Sakra, a deity of Vedic origins, took pity on the king and cleared the jungle from the hill. Sakra could not, however, identify for Okkalapa the exact spot where the relics were to be enshrined. It was because he was only 36 million years old, and therefore did not remember the visits of the earlier Buddhas (which, according to Buddhist cosmology, happened eons in the past). Okkalapa therefore asked local nats (spirits) if they could remember. Fortunately the oldest of the nats, Sule, recalled once trying to eat one of the Buddhas. But he had learned the Dhamma and was no longer a cannibal. Ashamed of his earlier acts and eager to earn merit, Sule led the king and the brothers to the correct spot, the relics were recovered, and the first Shwedagon pagoda was built on the spot.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The hill is located on the last spur of the Pegu Yoma (Pegu Mountains), some three kilometers north from the centre of Yangon, and on the western shore of Kandawgyi Lake (Royal Lake). It is divided into three terraces, the Lower Terrace at road level (ascent of the hill must be made on foot from this point), the Middle Terrace (the beginning of the sacred precinct of the pagoda, beyond which footwear and head coverings are not permitted) and the Top Terrace (the terrace immediately surrounding the main stupa). There are four covered walkways from the road to the top of the hill, one for each cardinal direction. Those on the southern and eastern sides are the most popular entrances to the pagoda.</p><br>
<p>Following the British capture of Rangoon in the Second Anglo-Burmese War, the hill became a military encampment, a status it retained until the 1920s.</p><br>
<p>Slatersville is a village on the Branch River in the town of North Smithfield, Rhode Island, United States. It includes the Slatersville Historic District, a historic district listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The historic district has been included as part of the Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park. The North Smithfield Public Library is located in Slatersville.</p><br>
<p>Slatersville was associated with and named for Samuel Slater and John Slater, members of the well-known Slater family.</p><br>
<p>In the late nineteenth century, the Woonsocket and Pascoag Railroad was built through the village, and the line is now owned and operated by the Providence and Worcester Railroad. The freight rail line now terminates in Slatersville near a steel distributor by the Slater Mill, rather than its former endpoint in Pascoag.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The region was originally settled in the 17th century by British colonists as a farming community. The village was founded in 1803 by entrepreneurs Samuel and John Slater, in partnership with the Providence firm of Almy and Brown. The firm purchased the land and began construction of a textile mill. By 1807, the village included the Slatersville Mill, "the largest and most modern industrial building" of its day, two houses for workers, the owner&#39;s house, and the company store.</p><br>
<p>Saskatoon station is a historic railway station building in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. It was built in 1908. It was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1976, and has also been protected as a Heritage Railway Station of Canada since 1990.</p><br>
<p>Saskatoon earned the nickname Hub City from the contributions of the CPR, CNR and GTP. The station was situated on the Regina, Saskatchewan to Edmonton, Alberta rail line.</p><br>

<p>Saskatoon&#39;s CP station is located at 305 Idylwyld Drive, in the Caswell Hill Neighborhood, Core Neighbourhoods Suburban Development Area.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Opened in 1908, the station served as a passenger depot, telegraph station, mail and freight depot. The CPR discontinued passenger service in 1960, maintaining it as an office site until 1993 when it was sold to Ken Achs who restored the building.</p><br>
<p>The CP station has not been used as a rail station for many years, and currently houses several businesses. Received the 1995 SAHS (Saskatchewan Architectural Heritage Society) Heritage Architecture Excellence Awards which was bestowed by Saskatchewan’s Lieutenant-Governor.</p><br>
<p>The city of Saskatoon is served by Via Rail&#39;s The Canadian service; however, that line uses the New Saskatoon Railway Station located southeast of the downtown core.</p><br>
<h2>Nearby</h2><br>
<p>Two other municipal heritage buildings are close to the Saskatoon Railway Station (Canadian Pacific), the Rumley Warehouse, built in 1913 and the Fairbanks Morse Warehouse. Both are located in the Central Business District which sprang up to support both the CNR rail station and railyards and the CPR. The Midtown Plaza shopping mall was built on the site of the former downtown CNR rail station in the late 1960s; in the 1990s the mall underwent a major renovation that included changing the front facade to resemble the style of the old rail station.</p><br>

<p>Pate Hole is a solutional cave located adjacent to Asby Gill 1 km south of Great Asby in Cumbria, England. It is 970 m long and has a vertical range of 33 m. The entrance is normally dry, but in flood it becomes an impressive resurgence. Its name derives from the north country word for badger.</p><br>
<p>It consists of three main passages. From the entrance a stooping height passage heading south-east reaches a large 6 m deep pool after 330 m from which a stream emerges. This flows down a low passage to the north for some 270 m where a sump is reached. The third main passage continues south underwater from the pool for 225 m at a depth of 27 m where it reaches a junction and becomes too restricted.</p><br>
<p>The cave is formed in Carboniferous limestone, and is thought to drain the Great Asby Scar area 3 km to the south-west. The resurgence is presumed to be St. Thomas&#39;s Well in Great Asby.</p><br>
<p>The main part of the cave has been known for a long time, and it was an object of curiosity in the nineteenth century. A brief foray into it was described in The Gentlemans Magazine in 1791, and a description appeared in The Monthly Magazine in 1802. The first full description complete with passage lengths appeared in 1813. The first account of an exploration by cavers was in 1941 by members of the Yorkshire Ramblers Club, and in November 1946 it was surveyed by a group from Appleby Grammar School led by Brian Price. The upstream sump was first dived for about 10 m to a descending rift in 1960 by members of the Cave Diving Group, at which time the main part of the cave was re-surveyed by Warburton et alia. Further exploration took place in 1975-1976 by members of the same group to reach the current limit.</p><br>
<p>The Collie River is a river in the South West region of Western Australia.</p><br>
<p>The Collie River was named by Lieutenant Governor Stirling after Dr Alexander Collie who, along with Lieutenant William Preston, in November 1829 was the first European to explore the river.</p><br>
<p>The Collie River Catchment is located in the south-west of Western Australia, it covers over 3,000 km² and includes the Wellington Reservoir. For Western Australia&#39;s growing population the reservoir is considered a valuable resource, but the water is too salty for drinking.</p><br>
<p>The Waters and Rivers Commission has a target of reducing the salinity of the river water to 500 mg/L by 2015 as a part of the State Salinity Strategy.</p><br>
<h2>Tributaries</h2><br>
<p>There are many tributaries of the Collie river including Collie River East, Collie River South, Bingham river, Brunswick River, Gervase river, Hamilton river, Harris river, Ironstone Gully, Silver Wattle Gully, Worsley River, Riches Gully and Mill Brook.</p><br>
<p>Selianitika  is a coastal village in northern Achaea, Peloponnese, Greece. It is part of the municipal unit of Sympoliteia. It is located 2 km northwest of Rododafni, 6 km northwest of Aigio and 26 km east of Patras, at about 30m above sea level. The villages Selianitika and Longos  share a beautiful beach of fine gravel on the Gulf of Corinth which is approximately 1.5 km long. Both villages are among the most popular summer destinations of Achaea. The village had a population of 902 in 2011. The Greek National Road 8A  passes south of the village.</p><br>

<p>The name Selianitika is derived from the name of the village of Seliana. According to A. Fotopoulos, the descent of inhabitants of Seliana from the mountains to the coastal region of "Kryovrysi" near Aigio (where the village of Selianitika lies today) started to happen during the Ottoman period. Initially the residents of Seliana were spending the winter in Selianitika and the summer in their village of Seliana but later they settled permanently. The residents of Seliana carried with them the parish of Saint Basil (the oldest of Seliana&#39;s churches) and today Saint Basil is the patron saint of the village of Selianitika.</p><br>
<h2>Tourism</h2><br>
<p>Selianitika has also mineral springs and a very small balneological bath spa. These sulphurous baths are recommended for diseases like arthritis and rheumatisms.</p><br>
<p>Gavalou  is a town and a community in the municipal unit of Makryneia, Aetolia-Acarnania, Greece. In 2011 its population was 1,018 for the town, and 1,051 for the community, which includes the small village Kourtelaiika. The town is located south of Lake Trichonida, the largest natural lake of Greece. It is 7 km east of Papadates, 10 km northwest of Kato Makrinou and 15 km southeast of Agrinio.</p><br>

<p>Gavalou may be built at or near the site of the ancient Aetolian town Trichonium, from which the Lake Trichonida derived its name. Its position is uncertain. Leake places it S. of the lake at a place called Gavala, and Kiepert, in his map E. of the lake. But since Strabo mentions it along with Stratus as situated in a fertile plain, it ought probably to be placed N. of the lake (Strab. x. p. 450; Pol. v. 7; Steph. B. s. v.). It was evidently a place of importance, and several natives of this town are mentioned in history. (Pol. iv. 3, v. 13, xvii. 10; Paus. ii. 37. § 3; Leake, Northern Greece, vol. i. p. 155.)</p><br>
<p>The Old Aetolia was the seacoast extending from the Achelous to Calydon, reaching for a considerable distance into the interior, which is fertile and level; here in the interior lie Stratus and Trichonium, the latter having excellent soil. A prominent figure was Alexander of Trichonium in Aetolia and he was commander of the Aetolians in 218 and 219 BC. He attacked the rear of the army of Philip on his return from Thermus, but the attempt was unsuccessful, and many Aetolians fell. (Polyb. v. 13)</p><br>
<p>Winter Quarters Bay is a small cove of McMurdo Sound, Antarctica, located 2,200 mi due south of New Zealand at 77°50&#39;S. The harbor is the southern-most port in the Southern Ocean and features a floating ice pier for summer cargo operations. The bay is approximately 250m wide and long, with a maximum depth of 33m. The name Winter Quarters Bay refers to Robert Falcon Scott&#39;s National Antarctic Discovery Expedition  which wintered at the site for two seasons.</p><br>
<p>A small peninsula on the southern tip of Ross Island forms the natural harbor at Winters Quarters Bay which offers shelter for ships. The harbor has served the few ships able to penetrate McMurdo Sound&#39;s 8 to 12 ft pack ice ever since the Discovery Expedition (1901–04).</p><br>
<p>Today, two ships assisted by an icebreaker annually arrive at Winter Quarters Bay with fuel and cargo to re-supply the adjacent USA McMurdo Station at 77&deg;50&prime;S latitude, 166&deg;40&prime;E longitude. The cargo operations also support nearby Scott Base and field stations throughout Antarctica. More than 50 years of activity at McMurdo Station has severely polluted the bay.</p><br>
<h2>Bay water characteristics</h2><br>
<p>A shallow submarine ridge marks the mouth of Winter Quarters Bay. Water depths in the bay range from 13m along the ridge to a maximum depth of 33m at the bay&#39;s center.</p><br>
<p>The submarine ridge and Hut Point Peninusula temper the effect of McMurdo Sound ocean currents. Current meters indicate such minimal currents that the bay can be considered essentially stagnant. In addition the submarine ridge tends to provide a buffer against icebergs moving into the bay and damaging the ice pier and shoreline. Physical barriers created by such land forms have also concentrated toxic pollutants introduced into the bay from operations at McMurdo Station, according to a 1997 USA National Science Foundation sponsored study.</p><br>
<p>The combination of sun and sufficiently warm air temperatures a few days during midsummer can produce snowmelt on adjacent Ross Island. The subsequent runoff is largely diverted by ditches and culverts into McMurdo Sound, rather than the bay, according to the National Science Foundation report.</p><br>
<h2>Harbor pollution</h2><br>
<p>Scientific and support operations at McMurdo Station, beginning with its construction in 1955, have led to severely polluted waters at Winter Quarters Bay. Until 1981, McMurdo Station residents simply towed their garbage out to the sea ice and let nature take its course. The garbage sunk to the sea floor when the ice broke up in the spring, according to news reports.</p><br>
<p>A 2001 survey of the seabed at Winter Quarters Bay revealed 15 vehicles, 26 shipping containers, and 603 fuel drums, as well as some 1,000 miscellaneous items dumped on an area of some 50 acre. Findings by scuba divers were reported in the State of the Environment Report, a New Zealand sponsored study.</p><br>
<p>In addition, sediments in the bay are contaminated with PCBs, metals, and hydrocarbon fuels. A January 2005 edition of the Antarctic Sun, a USA National Science Foundation publication, noted that a former landfill located on a hill above the bay is considered to have been a primary source of the fuel and PCB contaminants. PCBs, now banned in the United States, were used in electrical and heating systems. A 1990 study found that PCBs in the water were also produced by marine shop wastes and ships pumping their bilges while docked.</p><br>
<p>The Antarctic Sun quoted a professor of developmental and cancer biology at the University of Auckland as saying "the bay has one of the highest toxic concentrations of any body of water on Earth."</p><br>
<h2>Turning basin</h2><br>
<p>Port officials deploy one or more icebreakers each summer, depending upon ice conditions, to cut a circular basin just off Winter Quarters Bay. The basin provides an open area for the cargo ships to depart the ice pier, swing north, and proceed into a ship channel through McMurdo Sound. The channel is opened up by icebreakers annually and can range from 8 to 50 nmi in length.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Robert Falcon Scott chose Winter Quarters Bay to winter over during his National Antarctic Discovery Expedition (1901–1904). The expedition vessel, RRS Discovery, was ice-locked in the harbour for two years before being freed by explosives on February 14, 1904.</p><br>
<p>The expedition included explorers Scott, Edward Wilson, and Ernest Shackleton&#39;s first major attempt to reach the South Pole. The explorers travelled overland to 82°S before turning back. The expedition erected a prefabricated hut at Hut Point overlooking the bay. The hut remains today and is protected as an historic site by the Antarctic Heritage Trust (New Zealand).</p><br>
<p>Vinces Cross, a wooden cross erected in 1902 to honour Seaman George T. Vince who drowned nearby is located immediately above the hut on a small knoll overlooking the bay at Hut Point. Our Lady of the Snows Shrine, a Madonna statue honouring Richard T. Williams, a Seabee tractor driver who drowned in 1956, is also nearby. McMurdo Stations Williams Field is named after the sailor. Moreover, officials erected another monument on the knoll to commemorate Raymond T. Smith, a Navy petty officer killed at Winter Quarters Bay during cargo operations aboard the USNS Southern Cross in February 1982.</p><br>
<p>The Acarnanian Mountains  is a mountain range in the northwestern part of the Aetolia-Acarnania regional unit in western Greece. It stretches from the village Monastiraki, near Vonitsa, in the north to Astakos in the south, with a total length of nearly 40 km. The Ionian Sea lies to the west.</p><br>
<h2>Peaks</h2><br>
<p>The mountains are composed of limestone and are generally barren with the exception of the northern faces. The highest peak is Psili Koryfi (Ψηλή Κορυφή, meaning "high peak") at 1589 meters. Directly to the southeast of Psili Koryfi is Boumistos mountain which stands at 1573 meters. Boumistos received its name because of the many lightning strikes that land near the summit. To the west of Boumistos and Psili Korfi is Misovouni which stands at 1338 meters. To the west of Misovouni is Serekas mountain which towers 1171 meters above the Ionian Sea. On the western foothills of Serekas is the convent of Agios Dimitrios which is run by a few nuns. To the north of Psili Koryfi is Perganti mountain which has a height of 1428 meters. On the summit of Perganti is a radio tower facility which services the region surrounding the Ambracian Gulf. The northernmost rampart of the range is Agriovouni which stands at 563.5 meters.</p><br>
<h2>Weather</h2><br>
<p>The mountains enjoy a wide variety of weather depending on the season. In the summer temperatures can be quite hot as the surrounding region can reach up to 90 &deg;F. In the higher elevations, summertime temperatures can drop into the 50&#39;s during the day and even cooler at night. Autumn sees even cooler temperatures with heavy rainfall as the area receives over 40 in of rain per year. Winter can be cold with snow falling on the higher elevations as early as November and as late as April. January and February are the coldest months with snow falling in the villages that surround the range that are as low as 250 meters. At the village of Monastiraki January temperatures are below freezing on several nights. The highest summits can receive up to 3 ft of snow in a strong winter storm. Spring time weather is pleasant with the occasional cold spell coming from the northeast.</p><br>
<h2>Settlements</h2><br>
<p>The main villages on the Acarnanian Mountains are Monastiraki in the north, Palairos in the northwest, Kandila in the west, Astakos in the south and Katouna in the east. The spring water Korpi is bottled on the northern end of the mountains.</p><br>
<p>Vrachasi  is a village and a former municipality in the Lasithi regional unit, Crete, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality of Agios Nikolaos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 63.41 km&sup2;.</p><br>
<h2>Main sights</h2><br>
<p>Vrachasi is a village of a few hundred people and typical of many around, but it has some interesting features and the traditional Cretan architecture is well preserved here. The main square of Vrachasi sits close to the road and has a wide view into the valley below, through which passes the main highway between Agios Nikolaos and Heraklion.</p><br>
<p>Vrachasis fiercely independent streak mirrors that of nearby Sisi and Milatos and can be seen by the many hand painted declarations of Dimos Vrachasiou&#39; around the area.</p><br>
<p>Dekabristov Island , or Decembrists&#39; Island, known before 1926 as Goloday Island  is an island in Vasileostrovsky District of Saint Petersburg, Russia, to the north of Vasilyevsky Island, separated from it by Smolenka River .</p><br>
<p>The island, originally low-lying and frequently flooded, all the same was traditionally used as a cemetery (see Smolensky Lutheran Cemetery). In the early Soviet period, the name was changed to Decembrists&#39; Island to commemorate five executed leaders of Decembrist revolt, who were buried in an unmarked grave on Goloday.</p><br>
<p>In 1911, a British investment company launched a development project on a 1 square-kilometer lot in western Goloday Island, hiring Ivan Fomin and Fyodor Lidwahl to design a neoclassical middle-classical neighborhood. A small part of this project was completed before World War I and the Russian revolution of 1917. Eastern and northern sides of the island were heavily industrialized; the western half of the island was built up with a Leonid Brezhnev-era highrise.</p><br>
<p>Dekabristov Island is connected to Vasilievsky island (south) with five automobile bridges, and to the tiny Serny Island north from it. It is connected to the center of the city through Primorskaya station of Saint Petersburg Metro.</p><br>

<p>Sugarloaf Hill is a peak along the Hudson River in Putnam County, New York, part of the Hudson Highlands. It was named by the Dutch for its resemblance in outline to a sugarloaf when sailing up the river towards it.</p><br>
<h2>Topography</h2><br>
<p>Sugarloaf Hill is in fact a ridge, running northeast and southwest, close to the east shore of the Hudson. The peak of Castle Rock lies off the northeast end of the ridge, while NY 9D runs along the west side. A small stream runs along the southeast side and flows into the Hudson, while to the northwest, the ground declines gently to the Hudson.</p><br>
<p>The hill is about 760 ft high at its summit, towards the middle of the ridge. A red-blazed trail climbs its western side, and then runs along the ridge, across the summit, to end at a viewpoint over the Hudson of about 700 ft elevation.</p><br>
<h2>Flora</h2><br>
<p>Somewhat unusually, Opuntia humifusa, prickly-pear cactus, can be found growing on ledges atop Sugarloaf Hill. The oceanic warmth brought upstream by the estuarine Hudson and the sunny, exposed rock allows this cactus to grow on the hill, and elsewhere in the Hudson Highlands.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Beverley, the house of Col. Beverley Robinson, was built at the foot of the peak in 1758. Robinson, a Tory, lost his house and estates there to confiscation in 1777. It was used as a headquarters by several American generals during the Revolution, and Benedict Arnold chose to dwell there when he took command of West Point in 1780. It was at Beverley that Arnold learned of the capture of John André and the failure of his treason, and fled thence to HMS Vulture.</p><br>
<p>Beverley later passed into the hands of Hamilton Fish, and was destroyed by a fire in 1892. The hill was donated by the Osborn family to the Taconic State Park Commission in 1974, and now forms part of the Osborn Preserve of Hudson Highlands State Park.</p><br>
<p>Lookout Mountain Park is a Denver Mountain Park located around 12 mi west of downtown Denver overlooking Golden, Colorado. It consists of 65.7 acre of evergreen wilderness atop Lookout Mountain, named for its being a favored lookout point of the native Ute Indian tribe. Lookout Mountain Park is the burial site of the internationally famous western frontiersman William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.</p><br>
<h2>Early history</h2><br>
<p>In 1889 a group of prominent area businessmen and residents proposed the idea of creating a mountain park as a getaway point for people from the urban city. After a lively competition between Lookout Mountain and Eden Park in Jefferson County west of Denver, Lookout Mountain was chosen for the honor. Plans were commissioned from famed architect Frederick Law Olmsted, the designer of Central Park in New York City, to create a naturalistic resort park for the area public to enjoy. Although the area for the original Lookout Mountain Park, as it became commonly known, was acquired by the syndicate, little manmade construction took place since finances were stymied by the Silver Crash of 1893. After languishing due to this and the deaths of its aging stockholders, Lookout Mountain Park was acquired by businessman Rees Vidler, who constructed a funicular incline railway to the top along with other attractions.</p><br>
<h2>Denver's Park</h2><br>
<p>With the advent of the Denver Mountain Parks system, Lookout Mountain was quickly eyed by the city, whose efforts were led by Mayor Robert W. Speer who earlier sat on the board of Lookout Mountain Park during the early efforts. In 1917 a portion of what earlier was Lookout Mountain Park was acquired by Denver, which became the new Lookout Mountain Park for Denver. After existing briefly side by side, the bankrupt remaining original park passed by the wayside and Denver&#39;s park has been popularly known as Lookout Mountain Park. Since then much of the area of the original park has been reacquired for park purposes as part of Jefferson County Open Space.</p><br>
<h2>Buffalo Bill</h2><br>
<p>"Buffalo Bill" Cody, who spent his final years living in Denver, was buried at Lookout Mountain Park on June 3, 1917. It is disputed whether Cody was buried here by his own request or by coercion, and it is not know if the exact site was chosen by his sister. In 1921 the gravesite was joined by Pahaska Tepee, a large and rustic wooden lodge designed by Edwin H. Moorman, housing the Buffalo Bill Museum. Today the museum continues to host visitors from around the world, a testament to Buffalo Bill&#39;s global appeal even a century after his Wild West exhibition last performed.</p><br>
<p>The Marshall Historic District is a National Historic Landmark District that encompasses a significant portion of the central residential and commercial area of Marshall, Michigan. The district is nationally significant for the remarkably unified and well-preserved street plan, architecture, and public infrastructure, one of the largest such concentrations in the nation. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1991.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The area that is now Marshall was settled in 1831 by Sidney Ketchum, a land speculator from New York who envisioned it as a future capital city for the future state of Michigan. He chose the site for its location on the Kalamazoo River and its proximity to the main road between Detroit and Chicago. The city was settled over the next decade by well-educated migrants from the northeastern United States, who brought with them a sense of building architecture and town planning from the region. The city was laid out in a rectilinear grid, and the early buildings were typically Greek Revival, some in a sophisticated high style. Growth was at first fueled by the belief that the community would be chosen as the state capital, but Lansing was chosen in 1847. Later growth came courtesy of industry and railroad transportation links, including the main rail yard of the Michigan Central Railroad.</p><br>
<p>The city&#39;s economic prosperity continued until the 1870s, when the Michigan Central closed its rail yard. During this period, construction continued apace, with high-quality but often conservative versions of the popular Italianate and Gothic Revival styles. In the early 20th century, the city continued at a lower level of prosperity, but the level of architectural quality of new Colonial and Classical Revival buildings continued to be high. The effect of this growth is that there is now a high quality cross-section of architectural styles of the 19th and early 20th centuries, including residential, civic, commercial, and religious buildings.</p><br>
<p>The historic district designated in 1991 is about 325 acre in size, and includes more than 750 historically significant buildings. It is roughly bounded on the north by Forest Street, the west by Plum Street, the south by Hanover Street, and the east by East Drive. This area includes the historic commercial, civic, and residential core of the city. Particularly notable buildings include the Hawaiian-inspired Italianate Honolulu House, the National House, an 1835 Greek Revival inn, and Wagner&#39;s Block, an imposing commercial Second Empire block on West Michigan Avenue.</p><br>
<p>Limentra is the name of two streams of the Bolognese and Pistoiese Apennines, both among the major tributaries of the Reno River. Due to their relatively large discharge, they are both exploited for the production of hydro-electric power.</p><br>
<p>The Limentra di Sambuca (also Superior or Western Limentra) rises from Monte la Croce, elevation about 1,319 m, and passes through Sambuca Pistoiese. It has a length of 19.4 km and flows into the Reno near Ponte della Venturina, near the border between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. Near Pàvana is a dam with a capacity of 900,000 m&sup3;. The waters are also used for the aqueduct serving Pistoia.</p><br>
<p>The Eastern Limentra rises from the same mountain, entering the province of Bologna near Lentula. Near Suviana a dam has been built on its course creating one of the largest reservoirs of the Apennines, with a capacity of about 43,850,000 m&sup3;. It flows into the Reno after 41 km, near Riola di Vergato.</p><br>

<p>Acıgöl  is a lake in Turkeys inner Aegean Region, in an endorheic basin at the junction between Denizli Province, Afyonkarahisar Province and Burdur Province. Its surface area varies greatly through the seasons, with 100 km² in spring and 35 km² in late summer, with a maximum depth of 1.63 m. The lake is notable for its sodium sulfate reserves extensively used in the industry and Turkeys largest commercial sodium sulfate production operations are based here. It is situated 60 km east of Denizli city. The lake&#39;s surrounding districts and towns are, from west to east, Bozkurt, Çardak, Dazkırı and Başmakçı.</p><br>
<p>The lake&#39;s altitude is 836 m and it is fed primarily by high-sulfate springs issuing from a fault line on its south side. The lake is estimated to contain 12.5 million mt of sodium sulfate in the surface and in the subsurface brine, with probable total reserves of 70 million mt, and possible reserves of 82 million mt. The yearly production rate in late 1990s was 100,000 tonnes, all operated by private sector companies.</p><br>
<p>The Santerno is a river in Romagna in northern Italy. It is the major tributary of the Reno River. In Roman times, it was known as the Vatrenus , although, in the Tabula Peutingeriana, it was already identified as the Santernus.</p><br>
<p>It rises near the Futa Pass, at 1,222 m of elevation, in the Apennine ridges facing the plateau of Firenzuola in the province of Florence. Beyond Firenzuola, it flows northeast through the province of Bologna near Castel del Rio, where it is crossed by a famous medieval bridge, the Ponte degli Alidosi. It then flows past Fontanelice, Borgo Tossignano, Casalfiumanese, and, once in the Pianura Padana (the Po River&#39;s valley), Imola. The river forms the border between the province of Bologna and the province of Ravenna for a distance before entering the province of Ravenna. It then empties into the Reno, 7 km from Bastia.</p><br>
<p>It is probable that, in ancient times, the river flowed eastward from Bagnacavallo, as confirmed be the existence of a frazione of Ravenna called Santerno. In those days, after Imola, the river divided into two branches, one moving northeast toward Ravenna, the other continuing northward to join the Po. The Ravenna branch disappeared, most likely in the eighth century.</p><br>
<p>Once the late course of the river was modified, and protective measures were taken in the 1880s, the Santerno was famous for its serious floods. Fourteen were recorded between 1679 and 1778.</p><br>

<p>Lake Yalchik  is the largest lake in Mari El, Russia, located in the Marii Chodra national park. Lake Yalchik plays a major role in tourism in region and several tourist centres are located here. It is renowned locally for its clean and warm water.</p><br>
<h2>Hydrology</h2><br>
<p>Lake Yalchik is a system of two lakes, the Greater and Smaller Yalchiks, which are linked by a channel which periodically dries up in summer. The elevation of Smaller Yalchik is higher than that of Greater Yalchik, but flow from Smaller Yalchik can only be observed at spring tide. The area of the lake is increasing due to the karst processes that shape the area. Legend says that the lake appeared after the major collapse of a meadow, which was originally in the location of the lake. The last major collapse occurred in 1914 and it generated a tsunami-like wave. At the bottom of the lake there are two series of karst caves, 1,600 m and 1,200 m long, and up to 30 m deep.</p><br>
<p>Greater Yalchik has a complex shape and many bays, whereas Smaller Yalchik has an elongated shape. Smaller Yalchik has two little brooks as inflows, but the Greater Yalchik has none.</p><br>
<h2>Etymology</h2><br>
<p>According to a local Mari legend the lake is named in honour of national hero Yalche.</p><br>
<p>There is also a possibility that the name of the lake has Turkic root. Turkish diminutive suffix is -chik, and yalchik means small yal where yal means village in the Chuvash. Turkish influence could also be seen in the name of the region Mari El, as el means country. Also many of the locations in Marii El have the jär/yer endings, which in Turkish means place.</p><br>
<h2>Recreation</h2><br>
<p>Being popular for its unique nature, Yalchik attracts many tourists, mostly from Kazan. However, there are no beaches at the lake, and the most of its coastline is covered with reed. Many tourists reach Yalchik by own cars, but a significant number of them use a railway. The closest station to Yalchik is in the settlement of Yalchevsky.</p><br>
<p>Some Mari and Tatarstan universities sometimes arrange science conferences at the Yalchik&#39;s rest home.</p><br>
<p>Považský Inovec is a mountain range in western Slovakia, named after the Váh river. It is 48 km  long and 15–25 km  wide mountain range. It is situated from the city of Hlohovec, raising from the Danubian Hills, and slowly raising further north until nearly to the city of Trenčín where it borders the Strážov Mountains, where is also the highest hill of the entire mountain range, Inovec . The mountain range separates basins of the Váh and Nitra rivers.</p><br>
<p>There are many monuments in or near the mountain range, including Great Moravian hill fort Kostolec near Ducové, Hlohovec Castle near Hlohovec, Beckov Castle near Beckov, Topoľčany Castle and Tematín Castle. The famous spa city of Piešťany lies under Považský Inovec.</p><br>
<h2>Geology</h2><br>
<p>Považský Inovec Mts. is considered as asymmetric horst emerging from the Neogene sedimentary fill of the Pannonian Basin between the Váh and Nitra rivers. The horst is bordered by steep normal faults and usually divided from north to south into three segments (or blocks). Basement rocks are in the northern portion dominated by crystalline schists (mostly diaphthorites, phyllonites, biotite micaschists and gneisses, amphibolites and migmatites). Extensive Late Paleozoic volcanosedimentary succession (Kálnica group) is present in the cover unit, in the area between the Selec and Hrádok villages. Sparse relicts of peculiar Upper Cretaceous sediments (Belice unit) are locally present in the northern and southern block. The transversal Hrádok reverse fault separates the northern block from the central block. Only the central block shows typical structure of the Fatra-Tatra Belt which is typical composed of Tatric crystalline basement composed of granitoids and gneisses, covered by the Mesozoic deposits and two superimposed cover nappes (lower Fatric unit and upper Hronic unit). Granitoid rocks form the Bojná and the Zlatníky massifs. The Fatric nappe is represented by the Zliechov succession. The Hronic nappe is preserved in outlayers, e.g. in the Tematín or Beckov Castle rocks. Both cover nappes are composed of the Triassic to Early Cretaceous rocks, mostly limestones, marlstones and dolostones. Relicts of the clastic deposits of Inner-Carpathian Paleogene Basin are found on the western slopes of the mountains.</p><br>
<h2>Paleontology</h2><br>
<p>The Čertova pec caves near Radošina have yielded relics of multiple human habitation from the Stone Age. Finds include artifacts from the Mousterian culture (associated primarily with Neanderthals) and the later Szeletian culture.</p><br>
<p>Panaitoliko  is a mountain range in the northeastern part of Aetolia-Acarnania and southwestern Evrytania, in western Greece. Its highest summit, Kyra Vgena , is the highest point of Aetolia-Acarnania at 1,924 m. Its length is approximately 25 km long from east to west and its width is approximately 15 km wide. The nearest mountains are Kaliakouda to the northeast, the mountains of Nafpaktia to the southeast and Valtou to the northwest. Lake Trichonida lies to the south. The Panaitoliko extends from the Acheloos valley in the northwest to the Evinos valley in the east. There are forests in the lower areas, and grasslands in the higher elevations.</p><br>
<p>The municipal unit of Panaitoliko took its name from this mountain range. Villages near the Panaitoliko include Prousos in the north, Mesokomi in the northeast, Amvrakia in the southeast, Skoutera in the southwest and Agios Vlasios in the northwest.</p><br>
<p>Westfield Wood is a woodland reserve located immediately south of Chatham in Kent, England. It is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Site of Special Scientific Interest.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>This five-and-a-half hectare site is part of an internationally important yew woodland complex. The steep chalky slopes of the central part of the wood are occupied by a dense stand of yew overtopped in places by mature ash and beech, with some field maple, wild cherry and oak. Some of the beech trees are fine specimens whilst others have died and provide important dead wood habitat for many insects and fungi.</p><br>
<p>A large section in the centre of the reserve was flattened by the October 1987 storm. This area has been left untouched and is monitored to record natural regeneration after this natural disturbance event.</p><br>
<p>On deeper soils in the northern part and in more level areas, hazel and ash coppice occurs. Here oak is more abundant, and crab apple can be found. Diligent search may yield butcher&#39;s-broom and green hellebore, whilst at the southern end, is stinking hellebore. There is also a fine colony of stinking iris, its orange seeds persisting through the winter.</p><br>
<p>Down the western edge, a good mixture of shrubs includes burnet rose, guelder-rose, spindle, wayfaring-tree and wild privet. The more common orchids of chalk scrub and woodland are present, mainly in one or two small clearings and at the field margins, but all are scarce. Many common woodland bird species are present including green and great spotted woodpecker, and goldcrest. During October and November flocks of thrushes can be seen feeding on the crop of yew berries.</p><br>
<p>Austin Hall is a classroom building of the Harvard Law School designed by noted American architect H. H. Richardson. The first building purposely built for an American law school, it was also the first dedicated home of Harvard Law School. It is located on the Harvard University campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.</p><br>
<p>The hall was built 1882–1884 in Romanesque Revival style. Single-story wings flank a heavy, two-story central mass, with the reading room extending rearwards to form an overall T shape. A central entryway framed with Romanesque triple arch is set deep within the building&#39;s flat front facade, with an asymmetric stairway tower protruding forwards to its right. The building is faced with Longmeadow sandstone in striking polychrome patterns, the light stones forming checkerboards within dark, reddish walls. The arches are of pale Ohio sandstone, as is the thick cornice band incised with a lengthy and sententious motto.</p><br>
<p>Austin Hall&#39;s first floor contains three large classrooms; these were designed to complement the new law school curriculum that was being implemented at the time by Dean Christopher Columbus Langdell, including large core classes employing the Socratic method. As this curriculum has been imitated by other American law schools, so has the classroom layout first employed at Austin Hall.</p><br>
<p>The buildings second floor contains the Ames Courtroom, where students argue moot cases before panels of judges. A United States Supreme Court justice usually presides over the moot courts final round. The reading room&#39;s interior has been judged particularly fine for its ornamented fireplace and tie beams carved with the heads of dragons and boars.</p><br>
<p>Lake Lou Yaeger is a 1,300-acre  reservoir located in Montgomery County, Illinois. Created by damming the West Fork of Illinois&#39;s Shoal Creek, it was built for recreation, sport fishing, and flood control purposes. The lake is 8 miles  long and 0.5 miles  wide. The nearest town is Litchfield, Illinois, south of Springfield, Illinois and north of St. Louis, Missouri.</p><br>
<p>Lake Lou Yaeger is managed for bass, bluegill, catfish, and crappie. The fish yield is enjoyed by many species; bald eagles began to nest at the lake in 2005. Boaters enjoy the absence of both speed and power limits such as are enforced on many other lakes in central and southern Illinois. Visitors to the lake often arrive by means of Interstate 55, which closely approaches the lake north of Litchfield.</p><br>
<p>The municipality of Litchfield operates the lake&#39;s largest park, the 266-acre (1.1 km²) Shoal Creek Conservation Area. The park contains patches of oak-hickory woodland and some patches of prairie, locally called prairie "barrens." There are 1.15 miles (1.8 km) of trails for foot, bike, or horse use.</p><br>
<p>Post Oak Springs Christian Church is an independent, non-denominational Christian church in rural Roane County, Tennessee, associated with the Restoration Movement. It is said to be the oldest Restoration Movement Christian Church in the American state of Tennessee, havin been formed in 1812.</p><br>
<p>The church building, erected in 1876, is the third building to house the church&#39;s congregation. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in March 2007 as a representation of late nineteenth century settlement patterns and the development of the Christian church in rural East Tennessee. The congregation currently meets in a modern brick church across the street from the old church.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>Post Oak Springs is located in Roane County, Tennessee, on the east side of Rockwood, off Roane State Highway, a short distance south of the Rockwood city limits.</p><br>
<p>Mount Weeks, formerly Round Mountain, is a mountain located in Coos County, New Hampshire. Mt. Weeks is the northeasternmost of the Pliny Range of the White Mountains and the highest point within the city limits of Berlin, New Hampshire. Mount Weeks is flanked to the southwest by South Weeks, and faces Terrace Mountain to the northwest across Willard Notch.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>Mount Weeks stands within the watershed of the upper Connecticut River, which drains into Long Island Sound in Connecticut.</p><br>
<p>The southeast side of Mt. Weeks drains into Stony Brook, thence into the Upper Ammonoosuc River, a tributary of the Connecticut. The northeast side of Weeks drains into Brandy Brook, thence into the Upper Ammonoosuc. The northwest and southwest sides of Mt. Weeks drain into Garland Brook, thence into Stalbird Brook and the Israel River, another tributary of the Connecticut.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The mountain, formerly known as Round Mountain, was renamed in honor of United States Senator John W. Weeks (1860–1926) of nearby Lancaster, New Hampshire in 1961. Senator Weeks sponsored the Weeks Act of 1911, under which the White Mountain National Forest was established.</p><br>
<p>Three Gorges Reservoir Region, including 25 county-level divisions of Chongqing municipality and Hubei province, is the region directly or indirectly involved in the submersion of the water storage of the reservoir region of the Three Gorges Dam.</p><br>
<h2>Geographical condition</h2><br>
<p>The Three Gorges Reservoir Region is located in the upstream of the Yangtze River at the boundary of Chongqing municipality and Hubei province with the area of 59900 km² and with the population of 16 million. The Three Gorges Reservoir Region stretches along the Yangtze River from Jiangjin District of Chongqing to Yichang City of Hubei, which is very narrow and where the geography is complex. The mountainous areas represent 74% of the region only with 4.3% plain area in the river valley and 21.7% hilly area. The climate of the reservoir region of the Three Gorges Project is the subtropical monsoon climate. Its location is in the transfer between the northern temperate zone and the subtropical zone, where it is hot and it rains a lot with the annual rainfall of about 1100 mm. The valley of the Three Gorges Reservoir Region below 500 m has an annual temperature 17–19 °C and, with the frost-free period annually lasts 300–340 days. The annual runoff flow at the site of the dam of the Three Gorges Project is 451 billion m³ with the annual sediment discharge of 530 million tons.</p><br>
<h2>Natural and ecological resources</h2><br>
<p>The Three Gorges abounds in the water resources, the ecological resources, the tourism resources and the resources of some ores, which has a great potential for exploration. The Yangtze River flows through the Three Gorges Reservoir Region with the good conditions for water transportation and the water-resources development. The potential installed capacity of hydropower can be about 30,000 MW in the Three Gorges Reservoir Region where the water resources are the most abundant for the whole main stream of the Yangtze River. Since the conditions of the Three Gorges Reservoir Region for the development of the water resources are good with a short distance to the load center, it is probable to largely develop the water resources. The agricultural resources of the Three Gorges Region are abundant, which are superior for the agriculture, forestry, livestock, sideline production and fishery. The Three Gorges Reservoir Region is proper for the growth of the various plants of both the warm temperate zone and the temperate zone. Dozens of ores have been explored and investigated in the Three Gorges Reservoir Region, such as gold, silver, copper, iron, uranium, sulfur, potassium, natural gas and halite. The natural sights along the Yangtze River in the Three Gorges Reservoir Region are superb, particularly those along 162 km main river between Sandouping of Yichang and Baidicheng Town of Fengjie, which are the famous sights of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River and one of the tourist plances of interest all over the world. In addition, there are a lot of cultural and historical sites, such as the Qu Yuan Temple of Zigui, the Zhaojun Home Village of Xingshan, the Shibao Stockade of Zhong County and the ghost town of Fengdu.</p><br>
<h2>Economy</h2><br>
<p>The Three Gorges Reservoir Region is an important part of the economic zone along the Yangtze River. The region is significant for both the promotion to the economic growth of the areas along the Yangtze River and the economic exchanges between the east of China and the west of China. The region is now and will be more and more superior for the economic progress of China with the gradual opening up to the world and the gradual economic promotion from the coastal areas to the river regions and the inland areas, especially with the construction of the Three Gorges Project. Furthermore, the Three Gorges Region is now and will be more and more significant for the economic progress of China.</p><br>

<p>Tróia  is a peninsula located in Grândola Municipality , Portugal, next to the Sado River estuary. Tourism is the peninsula&#39;s main activity due to its long beaches facing the Atlantic. There is a ferry boat connection between the peninsula and the city of Setúbal. Tróia has important archeological sites dating from the time when the peninsula was an island called Acalá, settled by the Romans.</p><br>
<h2>Getting there</h2><br>
<p>There are two ferries; one, a catamaran, carries only foot passengers from Setubal to the point nearest the mainland; the other carries cars, bikes etc. to a point some 4 km south-east.</p><br>
<h2>Main attractions</h2><br>
<p>The peninsula has a casino, many hotels, some restaurants, a swimming pool and white sand beaches facing the Atlantic Ocean. Here you will also be able to find the Roman ruins and the Porto Palafítico da carrasqueira.</p><br>
<h3>Beaches in Troia</h3><br>
<p>The beaches nearest to Setúbal are busy during summer months, especially at weekends. Stilted walkways link these beaches to the harbour and marina areas, protecting the vulnerable dune flora. There are small cafes on the beaches and larger ones around the marina near the foot-passenger ferry.</p><br>
<p>There are beaches both facing the Atlantic (west) as well as the Sado River (east).</p><br>
<h3>Marina of Troia</h3><br>
<p>In the Marina of Troia, get onboard of a boat and sail away while you watch the dolphins that provide an additional natural beauty to this area. In the summer you can even dive and swim with these amazing animals.</p><br>
<h3>Roman ruins</h3><br>
<p>The Roman ruins are a place that was occupied until the 6th century. Here the ancient people took advantage of the abundance of fish and salt in this area. Nowadays it is possible to observe the ruins of the thermal baths with the rooms for hot and cold baths, the houses with 2 floors and necropolis of several kinds of graves.</p><br>
<h3>Porto palafítico</h3><br>
<p>The Porto palafítico is a unique harbor that was built in the 20th century. Resting on wood pillars driven into the mud, this harbor seems to move from the margin and moving inside the river.</p><br>
<p>The sea around the Tróia peninsula is also home to a school of bottlenosed dolphins; boats from the marina and from Setúbal offer ½-day trips for dolphin-sighting.</p><br>
<p>Cabo Espichel is a cape situated on the western coast of the civil parish of Castelo, municipality of Sesimbra, in the Portuguese district of Setúbal.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Following the Calcholitic, human tribes began to look for elevated locations in order provide a natural defense; there are vestiges encountered in the area of Outeiro Redondo and Zambujal, that indicate this preoccupation and conflicts. During the Iron Age, there are documented references to the lands of Risco, farther to the west of Cabo Espichel, that was a largest undefended settlement at the time. Avieno in Orla Marítima named Cabo Espichel, Cabo Cêmpsico, and was probably because the name was associated with the peoples that lived in the vicinity. Later, the geographer Strabo called this area Promontorium Barbaricum.</p><br>
<p>At a time when Roman settlement persisted in the Iberian peninsula, the Roman presence on the cape was limited. This can be explained by the symbology that the Romans conferred on the capes, which they considered sacred, where the gods met at night. Notwithstanding, there are vestiges of the Roman Imperial cult in the Lapa do Bugio, situated in Zambujal, close to Sesimbra.</p><br>
<p>Until today there have not been encountered any evidence of Muslim settlement, but the local toponymy has a few markers, such as the name Azóia, that derived from Al Zawiya (meaning hermitage). Some Moorish coins were also discovered in Lapa do Fumo (but minted in Silves) and some ceramics attributed to hermits from the Lapa do Forte do Cavalo and Lapa do Coelho. During the Middle Ages, various legends attracted people to the site; it was a crucible of Portuguese nationalism, when on 29 July 1180, in the square of Cabo Espichel, D. Fuas Roupinho was able to obtain the nation&#39;s first naval victory against the Moors.</p><br>
<p>There are various legends associated with the cult of Nossa Senhora da Cabo, many contradictory, that situate the devotion during this time. It is possible that the cult resulted from Christianization of other cults that appeared in the pre-history and continued to Moorish occupation. The cult, though, is certainly medieval dating from the 13th century, with the first references appearing in the 14th century (specifically in 1366) from a royal letter sent by King D. Pedro I.</p><br>
<p>Another medieval legend about the cape indicates that in 1215 a ship traveling to Lisbon was caught in a storm, tasking the crew. Haildebrat (the ships chaplain) decided to pray to an image, that he had in his cabin, but realized that it had disappeared. Desperate for divine intervention, they suddenly saw at the top of the cape a light, even during the height of the storm. Later, when they arrived on land, they encountered the disappeared image on the ship.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>Cabo Espichel is situated on the western coast of Portugal, along an extension of approximately 100 km that occupies a region called the Bacia Lusitânica (BL), that occurred during the opening of the north Atlantic during Triassic.</p><br>
<p>In tectonic terms, the BL is delimited by the Porto-Tomar fault and the Arrife-Vale fault in the eastern/lower Tagus and in the west by the Berlengas horst, corresponding to a ridge of intense tectonic subsistence along the north-northeast to south-southwest.</p><br>
<p>The southern limit is located at an elevation south of Arrábida (at the Arrábida fault) and the southern limit corresponds to the watershed transition situated more to the north. In addition to these faults, there are also faults with variable directions between east-west and northeast-southwest, that divide the basin into different tectonic-sedimentary areas, that could have influenced sediment deposition during Mesozoic. The BL is filled with sediments between the late Triassic and late Cretaceous, including alternating layers of marine carbonates, clastic carbonate coastal sediments, fluvial and estuarine siliciclastic deposits, among others.</p><br>
<p>Also famous, are the several dinosaur fossil trackways exposed in some of the now tilted Jurassic strata which form the cape&#39;s cliffs. It is said that local superstition interpreted the trackways as the path taken by the Holy Virgin ("Nossa Senhora") when riding a giant mule from the ocean and up the cliffs, which led to the eventual construction of the convent at that location.</p><br>
<p>Myōjin-shō is a submarine volcano located about 450 kilometers south of Tokyo on the Izu-Ogasawara Ridge in the Izu Islands. Volcanic activity has been detected there since 1869. Since then it has undergone more eruptions, the most powerful of which resulted in the appearance and disappearance of a small island.</p><br>
<p>The name Myōjin-shō derives from a fishing boat, No.11 Myōjin-Maru of Yaizu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, the crew of which first witnessed the major volcanic eruption of 1952.</p><br>
<h2>Eruption of 1952-1953</h2><br>
<p>The volcanic eruption from 1952 to 1953 was one of its biggest eruptions on record, with the repetitious appearance and disappearance of an island, which at one point reached over ten metres above sea level, before sinking after a major volcanic eruption in September 1953. On September 24, 1952, a survey vessel, Kaiyo Maru No. 5 of the Hydrographic Department of the Maritime Safety Agency, was destroyed by the volcano, with the loss of its crew of 31 (including the nine scientists studying the eruption). Consequently, the Department developed Manbou (Sunfish), an unmanned radio operating survey boat, and has used it for the research of dangerous sea areas such as submarine volcanoes.</p><br>

<h2>Survey of 1998-1999</h2><br>
<p>In 1998 and 1999, the Hydrography Department conducted comprehensive sea bottom surveys around Myōjin-shō, using the state-of-the-art survey vessel Shoyo and Manbou II, the second generation Manbou. As a result of these surveys, a detailed picture of the seabed topography around Myōjin-shō was made for the first time.</p><br>
<p>Manbou II conducted the survey of the sea area within a radius of 3 nautical miles (about 5.4 kilometers) of Myōjin-shō. Shoyo conducted the survey of the sea area within a radius of about 10 nautical miles (about 18.5 kilometers) but farther than the area of the radius of 3 nmi. Manbou II works by the order of preprogrammed instructions and measures depth and water temperature. Bathymetric survey of Manbou II was carried out by using the "PRD-601" echo sounder at intervals of 0.2 nautical miles (about 370 meters). Shoyo conducted a comprehensive survey including the geological and geophysical surveys of sea bottom.</p><br>
<p>Bathymetric survey of Shoyo was carried out by using a "Seabeam 2112" echo sounder at intervals of 0.5 nautical miles (about 930 meters).</p><br>
<h2>Structure</h2><br>
<p>Previously, Myōjin-shō was considered to be the central cone of a double volcano with the Bayonnaise Rocks (rocks of 9.9 meters in height above the sea level) as a portion of the somma (Mita, 1949). As a result of the survey, however, the authors found that both Myōjin-shō and the Bayonnaise Rocks are cones on the somma of a double volcano. The foot of this double volcano lies 1,400 to 1,500 meters in depth and the size is about 30 by 25 kilometers east-west, north-south. The somma is almost a circle in the diameter of 7 by 9 kilometers and the height is 1,000 – 1,400meters.</p><br>
<p>The diameter of the caldera floor is 5.6 kilometers and about 1,100 meters in depth. The central cone is a high formerly known as Takane-shō, 328 metres below sea level.</p><br>
<p>Myōjin-shō is a post caldera cone formed in the northeastern part of the somma of the double volcano. It is a single conical cone and its height is 550 meters with the shallowest depth 50 meters. A record that suggests a gushing of bubbles near the summit was obtained and micro-earthquakes were observed near Myōjin-shō, showing that the volcano is still active, although at a low level.</p><br>
<p>South Weeks, or Mount Weeks-South Peak, is a mountain located in Coos County, New Hampshire.</p><br>
<p>The mountain is named for United States Senator John W. Weeks (1860–1926) of nearby Lancaster, New Hampshire, the sponsor of the Weeks Act of 1911, under which the White Mountain National Forest was established.</p><br>
<p>South Weeks is part of the Pliny Range of the White Mountains.</p><br>
<p>South Weeks is flanked to the northeast by Mount Weeks, and to the southwest by Mount Waumbek.</p><br>
<p>South Weeks stands within the watershed of the upper Connecticut River, which drains into Long Island Sound in Connecticut.</p><br>
<p>The southeast side of the mountain drains by various streams into Keenan Brook, thence into the Upper Ammonoosuc River, a tributary of the Connecticut.</p><br>
<p>The north and west sides of the mountain drain into Garland Brook, thence into Stalbird Brook and the Israel River, another tributary of the Connecticut.</p><br>
<p>Baspa River rises near the Indo-Tibetan border and forms the Baspa Valley  - one of the most scenic in Himalayas. The Chung Sakhago Pass lies at the head of the valley. It is fed by the perennial glaciers and shares the catchment area with the Ganges.</p><br>
<p>Baspa starts at the Baspa hills, joins Sutlej River from the left bank near Karcham. The upper and middle slopes of the valley along the river are covered with pine and oak forests. Pastures, meadows and fields cover the lower slopes. Some of the most picturesque villages in the Himalayas can be found here. Only the lower half of the 95 kilometers length of the valley is inhabited - all the way from Chitkul (3,475 m) to where the Baspa meets the Sutlej River at Karcham (1,830 m).</p><br>
<p>Though gentle most of the way, it would be difficult to raft in Baspa as some stretches have sheer falls.</p><br>
<p>Thackeray Hall is an academic building of the University of Pittsburgh and a contributing property to the Schenley Farms National Historic District at 139 University Place on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States.</p><br>
<p>Thackeray Hall houses Pitt&#39;s Department of Mathematics. Previously, it housed the Mathematics Library in room 430, whose collection is now located in the Bevier Engineering Library of Benedum Hall. On the ground floor are many university student services: class registration, tuition billing, and transcripts, as well as housing the Advising Center of the School of Arts and Sciences on the second floor.</p><br>
<p>The building is the former building built circa 1923-1925 in the Early Classical style. The building was purchased by the University in 1968 for $1,875,000 ($ in dollars), and was originally purposed for faculty offices. It was known as the Social Sciences Building until 1972 when it was renamed Mervis Hall and designated as the home of the Graduate School of Business. In 1983, when the Graduate School of Business moved into a new building also named Mervis Hall, it was renamed Thackeray Hall.</p><br>
<p>The Salem United Church of Christ, known in previous generations as the Salem German Evangelical Reformed Church or Deutsche Evangelisch Reformierte Salems Kirche, is located at 1425 Sycamore Street in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. The church holds membership in the United Church of Christ, the successor to the German Reformed tradition.</p><br>
<p>This church was constructed in 1867 and services were held in German until the 1930s. The former German name of this church is engraved over the front door on Sycamore Street.</p><br>

<p>Bridal Veil Falls is a waterfall in the DuPont State Forest, on the Little River, near Brevard, North Carolina.</p><br>
<h2>Geology</h2><br>
<p>The waterfall begins as a slide which drops over a ledge approximately four feet high. The river then continues down a long, sloping, ever-steepening granite slope before plunging into some small pools or against large rock slabs at the bottom. A portion of the river drops off a 25&#39; cascade on river left at the bottom.</p><br>
<h2>Visiting the falls</h2><br>
<p>Access to the falls is from the forest&#39;s Fawn Lake parking area by hiking or bicycle by going past Fawn Lake, the airstrip, and the horse barn, or from the Buck Forest parking area by crossing the covered bridge, turning right, and following this road past Lake Julia to the falls. Access to the falls by vehicle may also be allowed for handicapped persons. A wide gravel road travels within several hundred feet of the falls, where a gentle, graveled path descends to the base. There is a viewing platform halfway down this trail and a bike rack at the bottom.</p><br>
<p>While it is possible to go behind portions of the falls and cross the river, or to walk up the wide, open slab of rock beside the falls when the rock is not wet or slippery, such activities are potentially dangerous. Visitors should exercise caution when crossing any stream or venturing near any waterfall.</p><br>

<p>Devil&#39;s Kitchen Lake is an 810-acre  reservoir in southern Illinois, created by the damming of Grassy Creek, a tributary of Crab Orchard Lake and the Big Muddy River. Most of the lake is located in Williamson County, southwest of Marion, Illinois. The lake is accessible from Interstate 57. Two arms of the lake penetrate into adjacent Union County. The lake is managed by the USA Fish and Wildlife Service.</p><br>
<h2>Geology and history</h2><br>
<p>Devil&#39;s Kitchen Lake is located just south of the farthest advance reached by glaciers during the Ice Ages. Instead of being located in the relatively flat, rolling terrain characteristic of most of Illinois, the lake is located in an unglaciated zone of deep sandstone valleys and steep slopes. Devils Kitchen Lake is located in one of these valleys, and it is one of the deepest lakes in Illinois. Sections of the lake are as deep as 90 feet (27 m).</p><br>
<p>The drainage area surrounding Devils Kitchen Lake was not very suitable for agriculture and, after being cleared in the early 19th century by frontier settlers, the region drifted out of cultivation. Much of the land was condemned by the federal government during the Great Depression of the 1930s as a form of agricultural readjustment and relief. The Civilian Conservation Corps built Crab Orchard Lake in that decade, and two lakes in Crab Orchards drainage area, Devils Kitchen Lake and Little Grassy Lake, soon followed it to stabilize water supply to the larger, downstream lake and provide additional recreational opportunities. The drainage area around Devil&#39;s Kitchen Lake was allocated to Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge, Crab Orchard Wilderness, Panther Den Wilderness, and Shawnee National Forest.</p><br>
<h2>The lake today</h2><br>
<p>The depth of Devil&#39;s Kitchen Lake make it a suitable lake for rainbow trout, a cool-water fish that does not thrive in most Illinois waters. The shores are controlled by the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge, and there are three separate boat-launching areas, on the north end, western shore, and eastern shore. There is a power limit on the lake, with motors restricted to 10 h.p. or less.</p><br>
<p>Sections of the lake are filled with underwater snags, the stumps of dead trees from the valley forest that once lived where the lake is today. Fishermen are advised to be aware of these snags. Swimming is forbidden in Devils Kitchen Lake.</p><br>
<p>A fee is required for motor vehicle access to the lake shore.</p><br>
<p>The nearest interstate exit is Exit 45 on Interstate 57.</p><br>
<p>Goose Eye Mountain, also known as Mt. Goose High, is a mountain located in Oxford County, Maine, about 1 mi.  east of the New Hampshire-Maine border. The mountain is the second-highest peak of the Mahoosuc Range of the White Mountains.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>Goose Eye Mtn. is flanked to the northeast by Fulling Mill Mountain, and to the southwest by Mount Carlo.</p><br>
<p>Goose Eye Mountain stands within the watershed of the Androscoggin River, which wraps around the Mahoosuc Range and drains into Merrymeeting Bay, the estuary of the Kennebec River, and then into the Gulf of Maine. The south side of Goose Eye drains via various streams into Sunday River and the Androscoggin. The northeast side of Goose Eye drains into Goose Eye Brook, then into Sunday River. The west side of the mountain drains via various streams into the South Branch of Stearns Brook, and then into the Androscoggin.</p><br>
<p>The Appalachian Trail, a 2,170 mi National Scenic Trail from Georgia to Maine, meets the Goose Eye Trail on the summit ridge of Goose Eye Mtn. about 0.1 mi east of the summit, and continues east and then north to the mountain&#39;s North Peak 3,675 ft.The mountain is ascended by the Goose Eye Trail, Wright Trail, and Mahoosuc Trail (which the Appalachian Trail follows in this area). The Goose Eye Trail is a popular dayhike in the summer and fall, as is the Wright Trail.</p><br>
<p>The Glärnisch is a mountain massif of the Schwyz Alps, overlooking the valley of the Linth in the Swiss canton of Glarus. It consists of several summits of which the highest is 2,915 metres above sea level. The other main summits are the Bächistock , followed by the Vrenelisgärtli  and the Ruchen . Until 1995, the highest point of the massif was considered to be the Bächistock, as the current main summit was thought to be lower .</p><br>
<p>The massif of the Glärnisch consists of two ridges of either side of the glacier named Glärnischfirn, culminating at the Ruchen to the west, rising more than 2,000 metres above the Klöntalersee, and at the Bächistock to the southwest. The Vrenelisgärtli is the closest peak to Schwanden.</p><br>
<p>The Glärnischfirn (also known as the Glärnischgletscher, the "Glarnisch Glacier") is about one mile long and about one-half mile wide at between 1.5 and 2.0 miles above sea level. The surrounding peaks are generally accessible to hikers and climbers only by traversing the length of the glacier itself. From the Vrenelisgärtli peak, the Lake Klontal may be seen directly, more than one mile below.</p><br>
<p>In recent years, the glacier has lost a massive amount of its volume and its tongue has retreated sharply.</p><br>
<p>East of the Glärnisch is located the lower Vorder Glärnisch.</p><br>
